A new AnonPaste Messages experience
AnonPaste Messages has been rebuilt around private one-to-one conversations. The redesigned interface is available on AnonPaste and AnonSilo, works across desktop and mobile, and keeps important privacy controls close to each chat.
End-to-end encrypted conversations
After both participants open a chat, new messages and supported attachments are end-to-end encrypted. Encryption happens on participant devices, and a clear system message marks when the protected part of the conversation begins.
The new chat information screen shows the encryption state and a safety number that participants can compare through another trusted channel. Encrypted messages remain locked on a device until the account password or encryption PIN unlocks the local encryption key.
One chat per person
Starting a conversation with the same person now returns to one active chat instead of creating another subject-based thread. Existing older threads remain readable as separate legacy conversations.
More control over deletion
The reworked Messages experience adds three distinct controls:
- Delete message removes one of your messages for everyone and leaves a deleted marker in its place.
- Delete chat for me clears only your own visible history. The other participant keeps their history, and later activity can bring the chat back from the new-message point.
- Purge chat removes all user messages and attachments for everyone while preserving the chat, encryption state, and authoritative system messages.
These controls cannot retract copies that someone has already saved or copied outside AnonPaste.
Encrypted attachments and storage
Supported chat attachments are encrypted before upload and use the sender’s existing AnonPaste storage allowance. Storage is released when the stored attachment is physically deleted, including after deleting its message or purging the chat.
Clearer chat information
An information panel now brings together the participant profile, encryption status, safety-number guidance, documentation, and chat settings. System events use simple timeline text, keeping the conversation readable without imitating user messages.
Quieter message notifications
Unread message counts now update across the site, and notifications open the relevant chat. Optional browser notifications use private message-count wording and suppress repeat alerts for ten minutes. Email alerts are also grouped so a burst of messages does not produce a burst of emails.
Reporting and preservation
A recipient can report one encrypted message by deliberately sharing that specific message for review; unrelated messages and conversation keys remain private. AnonPaste can also preserve a conversation when legally required without claiming access to encrypted content it cannot decrypt.
